Most people think an eye exam is just to determine a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. While that is a part of the process to be able to see better, a comprehensive eye exam can help detect certain health issues like Glaucoma, Cataracts, Macular Degeneration, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Dry Eye Syndrome, tumors, and more.
In order to have a truly thorough eye exam your eyes must be dilated to help to detect any eye related issues. The average dilated exam takes 45 minutes to an hour. We recommend that you have an eye exam yearly, as doing so may help catch issues that can effect your vision or lifestyle.
A common misconception is patients may think a stronger prescription will help them to see better; this is not always the case. Dry eyes are one of the most common reasons for poor vision. Certain medications can also distort your vision, as well as some of the conditions listed above.
